Friday Freestyle
- Friday 6-8pm
Your hosts every Friday are DJ Ross Collins (Fushi) and Nay Daze - 2 of Norwich's most diverse and respected DJs - join them from 6pm for the Friday Freestyle weekend warmup - a serving of the finest beats - from soul to funk, latin, boogie, reggae, deep house, broken beats and much more...
Nay Daze has been presenting on Future Radio since it’s inauguration in 2004 and has presented the Friday Freestyle since the station’s full-time launch in August 2007.
Billed as the weekend warm-up the show features new releases from across the world & builds like a set you’d hear on a mix-tape or at a club with the ups, downs, plateaus and up, up & aways. In the 1st hour we focus on the Beats, non 4/4 (house/tech) beats, Funk, Broken, Breaky, Latin, Hip-hop, anything really!
The second hour focuses on house in all it’s constantly evolving forms – Tech / Electro / deep / vocals of course, and the more melodic side of techno, and some old classics too – tunes you’ll know & ones perhaps you won’t plus of course some nu-time classics too! And of course we’ll go deep into the mix in 2nd hour, using Decks n Mixer – no overdubbing, or editing and no laptop mixing – “I mean, why bother? We may as well turn up plug in a laptop press shuffle and f**k off for 2 hours – genuine for 2-00-9 kno’ what I’m sayin’.”
Also a regular feature, the Going out Gig Guide –“ What’s hot, What’s not, Where to go and Shake yo’ bot!
Live regular guest DJs and Producers mixing live also feature.
Nay Daze:
“It’s a fantastic slot in the Future Radio schedule being the 1st specialist music show of the weekend and also one of the earliest, scheduled at 6 o’clock. Continuing straight after the day time schedule, there’s an important balance to strike between tunes & chatter and I have a free hand to play what I feel will work and be unrestricted in playing accessible but unobvious forward looking dance music of all styles.”
“Doing the show every week too, gives me a real chance to break tunes over a number of weeks at a time when they’re still fresh – that’s a DJ’s main role and one they often lose sight of with the amount of new music being released every day.”
“I got no problem playing several mixes of a track on the same show. My philosophy has always been if it’s good enough, f**k it play it. Twice inna row if need be!
Above all though it’s about striking a level of trust with listeners so the show is stimulating and invigorating. That means no cheese, no obvious anthems and definitely no fillers.”
