Future Radio's madmen - Dave and Confused

Future Radio's madmen - Dave and Confused

Over the last 8 years of broadcasting we've been asked to describe The Dave & Confused radio show many times and it's always been a difficult question to answer. It's unlike any other. You really need to tune in to understand what this bizarre show 'is'.

It's genre defying, edgy, surreal, banal, wrong, so wrong it's right. You should tune in. No two shows are ever the same, special and bizarre guests parachute in, break in, break world records, phone in from the future, blow off steam and occasionally blow up whilst on air.  Presenters end up having full blown arguments with each other live on air, fights have broken out many times, a unicorn was shot dead in the studio once.

What has been a constant during the shows long and rightfully multi-award winning run is undoubtedly the most wonderful playlist of music ever, Confused adores good old fashioned rock, Dave is an indie elder and former grunger and Andy claims he invented Britpop, Acid Jazz and Shoegaze. Sometimes Bernard Stringer is on hand to play his wide repertoire of songs such as "Emo's Outside The Forum", "Halloween in Anglia Square (It's Always Halloween in Anglia Square" or fry a kingfisher that's if he's not piloting a submerged submarine beneath the Broads searching for Atlantis (it's down there somewhere!).

So, 9 years ago Andy Palmer was doing stand-up comedy as "Normal For Norfolk" when he heard about Future Radio and dropped a CD of his songs and sketches coupled with a note through their letterbox hoping somebody might like it.  Dave and Oli (aka Confused) were already presenting a show together, they liked it and invited Andy along to sing stupid songs, the rest is history.

That Future Radio have allowed this bunch madmen such a free rein speaks volumes for them, creativity is encouraged, it's a wonderful alternative and we're all glad we volunteered. Dave & Confused is one of Future Radio's longest running shows, originally broadcast Friday afternoons before moving to a Thursday slot 6:30-8pm. Anything could happen, you should tune in Thursday, hopefully no unicorns will be injured, though we might cook a Kingfisher.

David Helsdon, Oliver Franzen and Andrew Palmer are volunteers and present the ‘Dave & Confused’ show on Thursday from 6.30pm till 8pm.
