Lee Staples - How did I get involved with Future Radio?

How did I get involved with Future Radio? I think I had my first accidental listen on a friends DAB radio. It must have been close to 10 years ago now. I was tuning in and out whilst doing other things and I remember enjoying most of what I heard and I appreciated the diversity of material that was being broadcast. After a bit of a gap, I remember speaking with a friend about the Peoples Playlist. Shortly after this, I heard an advert as well on Future and right then and there I decided I wanted to create a playlist of my own. I love music so much and it was very exciting and challenging whittling down my huge collection to 12 songs. When I came to Future, the people who helped me we were professional and courteous and it made the whole process easy and comfortable. I also was a guest on another show a bit later with my friend Tony Allen and had the privilege of contributing a few more songs. In the last year, I was desperate to put out some more tunes so I was lucky enough to do another People’s Playlist which again got me very excited. Shortly after the 2nd playlist, I decided I wanted to volunteer at Future and fortunately for me they said yes. I started working on Intros / Outros. Some kind and patient members of staff taught me how to use the software and it became and enjoyable and engaging process. Shortly after this, I decided I wanted to create my own show. I gave Future a demo and they gave me time to make 6 shows. I have very eclectic taste in music bar the charts. I received some help learning how to use the desk with all its knobs and dials and I was given lots of encouragement by staff as I was a bit nervous. Future gave me confidence. Making my own show has taught me a lot about how a show is put together and I wish I could be a DJ all the time.
