The Next Big Thing is back!
Well its that time again: Future Radio’s Next Big Thing is back for 2015/ 2016 ! Yay!
The Next Big Thing is Future Radio's competition for new and emerging musical acts from the East of England. It launched once again on 1st October 2015; with acts able to submit entries until 1st December 2015.
I have been involved in the running of Future Radio’s Next Big Thing since the early days. In 2008 I was one of the judges who named Ed Sheeran the NEXT BIG THING winner.
There was just something amazingly good about what he did up there on stage. You couldn’t take your eyes off him. I think we got decision that right didn’t we? Ed was such a popular winner lots of us here have followed his career with a sense of pride knowing that the Next big Thing played a part in his rise to superstar success.
From 2009, I have been the coordinator of the competition and I am already looking forward to seeing who will enter this year and what will become of them.
Last years winner Harry Edwards is already on the road to success. Since winning the NBT, he has been working with Paul Epworth who ha written and produced songs for Adele, Beck, Florence and the Machine and Plan B. Harry has moved down to London full time to continue working with Paul Epworth and to continue writing his own material – a world away from his job in Tesco’s in Alysham.
One of the pleasures of organizing this competition is that I get to work not only with some great local musicians but with some local partners too. This year, Future Radio will again be working closely with Outline Magazine and OPEN Live Venue to bring back the competition for what will be its 11th year.
The two semi-finals will take place in over one weekend January 30th & 31st 2016 at OPEN live music venue. The final will take place at OPEN on March the 5th 2016. Judges will be a selection of those already working in a wide variety of roles within the music industry.
The Next Big Thing is open to all musicians – based in Norfolk or Suffolk - who can enter for a chance to win the prestigious title of NEXT BIG THING 2015/16 and win £500! HOW TO ENTER: via futureradio.co.uk
Of course Future Radio continues to pump out great shows 24/7 and is already planning some more outside events – watch this space for news of “Future Fest” coming your way soon.
