Co-Producer and Presenter of Future Radio’s Groove Britain show (Sundays 3pm – 5pm) has released a book cataloguing his huge collection of Beatles and Apple memorabilia in the first of a series of books to be produced.
Nigel Pearce of Cromer, North Norfolk, has been a Beatles fan since he was 13 and has collected Beatles and Apple Records memorabilia for more than 50 years. He has rare records, photographs, autographs, guitars, letters, invitations, programmes, tickets and memos, many of which have never been seen in public.
Now Nigel has complied his collection in a new book entitled ‘Inside No3‘, which lavishly illustrates The Beatles in an entirely different way, and includes memorabilia from other Apple recording artists such as Mary Hopkin and Splinter. ‘Inside No.3’, an illustrated history of Apple Records, is so named for Apple Records’ address in London – 3 Savile Row. Apple Records launched in 1968 with The Beatles’ ‘Hey Jude’ and Nigel’s collection began when he bought the single – he then went on to collect every record Apple released!
Nigel’s impressive collection includes a gold disc of ‘Hey Jude’, given to him by George Harrison in the 1970s; the original 1970 ‘Let it Be’ presentation pack and a programme and ticket from the 1957 Bill Haley concert at the Liverpool Adelphi, where John Lennon and Paul McCartney briefly met for the first time – all of which you can see and read about in Nigel’s new book!
Even Nigel doesn’t know exactly how many items there are in his collection. “There are too many to count!” he says. One day the avid Beatles fan would love to stage an exhibition. For now though he is putting together a series of illustrated books, starting with ‘Inside No. 3’.
Nigel often plays items from his personal collection on Future Radio’s Groove Britain show, which he co-produces and presents with his long-time friend Alan Thompson on Sundays from 3pm to 5pm.
