17th May 2023 – the 60th anniversary of the one and only Beatles performance in Norwich.

Norwich’s local radio station is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Beatles’ one and only performance in Norwich, with a Beatles Special on their 60s show, Groove Britain.
17th May 1963 was the day that John, Paul, George and Ringo arrived in Norwich to play at what were the Grosvenor Rooms on Prince of Wales Road. After setting up their gear and watching a film at the nearby ABC cinema, they played to 1,700 people before popping across the road to enjoy fish and chips with their fans! 17th May 2023, marks the 60th anniversary of this event and Future Radio will be hosting a day of Beatles themed shows, including the Groove Britain Beatles Special!
The Groove Britain Beatles Special will be a must-listen for all Beatles fans, featuring special guest interviews with pop and rock artists from the 60s and 70s who worked alongside members of the Beatles, including Alan Clarke from The Hollies and the legendary Kiki Dee. Presenters Nigel Pearce and Alan Thompson will take listeners on a journey through the history of the Beatles, playing their biggest hits and lesser-known gems.
Beatles Day will also be a chance for the people of Norwich to celebrate the enduring legacy of the group. Future Radio is keen to hear from anyone who would like to share their memories of the concert 60 years ago and will be polling their listeners to discover Norwich’s favourite Beatles song!
Beatles Day starts with Breakfast with Future Radio at 7am on 107.8fm and DAB in Norwich, worldwide online at futureradio.co.uk and on smart speaker. The Groove Britain Beatles Special is from 9am to 1pm on Wednesday 17th May 2023.
Nigel Pearce, Beatles expert and co-presenter of the Groove Britain Beatles Special said: “We’re thrilled at Future Radio to be celebrating Beatles Day and the 60th anniversary of the Beatles’ only performance in Norwich. The Beatles have had an immeasurable impact on music and popular culture, and we’re excited to pay tribute to their legacy with a day of programming dedicated to their music.
