About the Show
The C86 Show is celebrates thirty years of indie pop and is presented by David Eastaugh! From the jingly jangly guitars of the mid-1980s right through to today’s most whimsical, melancholic and quirky pop music, C86 channels the spirit of indie.
The C86 Show is inspired by an NME cassette of the same name. It was a life-changing collection of 22 tracks featuring the likes of Fuzzbox, Stump, Bogshed, Primal Scream, Shop Assistant and The Wolfhounds – 1986’s finest indie music. We also love the Smiths (of course!), Terry and Jerry, the Wedding Present, the Primitives, the Darling Buds and the Flatmates.
But this isn’t just a nostalgia show! Moving forward in time we’ll be including bands such as Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers, Nirvana, Pixies, right up to the most recent grooves that wouldn’t be out of place on the John Peel show.
Meet Your Hosts
David Eastaugh
The 80s was the decade when I discovered the John Peel show and also the NME and thus, became my obsession with indiepop, reggae, African music, death metal, rap and Bulgarian folk music. The C86 Show has taken me all around the world as I have tried to interview as many of the bands as possible, resulting in an aural archive of over 600 interviews. As a side project I have also interviewed a vast array of people who have worked with David Bowie. Alan McGee from Creation Records is my biggest fan.
